NUZI Concepts store opened in November 2006.

 

The NUZI Chinese characters literally translate to 'button' which symbolizes the unification of two parts being New Zealand and Chinese culture. NUZI also has a similar phonetical sound to New Zealand when spoken in mandarin language. 

NUZI store is a multi functioning retail space that houses an eclectic mix of quirky, crafty, nifty, fun, unique and innovative art and design sourced from New Zealand and also from kiwi's working and producing abroad. We do our best to highlight the broad spectrum of art and culture from across New Zealand into our small store.

NUZI store is located in an 1930's Shikumen village called 'Tian zhi fang' or 'Tai kang lu' as it more commonly known in Shanghai. Taikang lu began as an art district which became famous in 1998 when famous artist 'Chen yi Fei' became a resident and thus attracting many followers to the little Taikang lu art street. It has since gone through several phases of popularity and the most recent phase began development of the area in 2006 and now has a reputation as one of the most popular local and tourist attraction where one can enjoy an eclectic mix of arts, cafes, restaurants, art, boutique stores and bars. The local Chinese government has now endorsed the Taikang lu development and has earmarked the area as a showcase of reurbanization and tourist highlight for visitors to Shanghai and will help in the preservation of Taikang lu.
